Being Efficient

"Top 5" Tip #5. Manage your time and work efficiently.

After acquiring all these basic skills and techniques, it is time to put them into practice. Reading, being opinionated, annotating, and editing all come into play when you are in AP Lang, but you need to be able to manage your time in order to get on task and accomplish everything that you need to. AP Language and Composition requires a considerable time input, approximately 3-4 hours a week. You will need to dedicate about 30 minutes to one hour each night, depending on the assignments. This type amount of work requires dedication and time management.

Be organized. If you know where all your things are, you will be less likely to waste time looking for things or distracted in other ways. You will also be more focused on the things that you need to get done. You can also set aside a certain time each day to work. This will keep you on schedule and focused for a specific time period.

Also, it is okay to take breaks -- as long your breaks don't start to dominate your time. Be realistic, and know that you can focus for only so long. Switch between homework assignments, or go outside for a breath of fresh air. Whatever you do, don't get slogged down, and don't stop working efficiently. Get up, move around, and come back to it in a minute or two.

My personal time management this year has allowed me to get all my assignments turned in on time. This has definitely helped my grade and made me a more efficient worker. Additionally, I stay very organized while working. I plan out my homework ahead of time, so I always know what exactly I need to work on. This helps me to stay focused and alert, contributing to a better overall work ethic.
